SAASTA calling on SA’s budding young scientists to enter Natural Science Olympiad

The South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA) is calling on teachers to help sign learners in grades four to nine for the fifth annual National Natural Science Olympiad.

The Olympiad is set to to be written in registered schools around the country on 7th May from 9am to 12 pm and will compromise mostly of (but are not limited to) natural science sections from the national curriculum

The aim of the Olympiad is to help learners prepare for year’s upcoming natural science syllabus and showcase some of South Africa’s brightest young scientists in the making.

Each learner will receive a certificate with their results after the Olympaid. The following special prizes will also be given out to the following top performers:

  • Top girl learners
  • Top performing schools
  • National winners
  • Top learner per grade

Prizes will include tablets, Apple iPods, digital cameras and science lab equipment for schools.

Learners are required to pay an entry fee of R10 each to take part and teachers can download application forms from the SAASTA website.
