Remastered Homeworld & its sequel out in late Feb

The remastered versions of Homeworld and Homeworld 2 have finally been given a release date: they will both be out in a single package on the 25th of February, 2015.

Developer Gearbox bought the rights to the franchise when original publisher THQ went bankrupt in 2013, but they haven’t said much about it since then. So when the details dropped over the weekend as picked up by Destructoid, many of us gamers who remember the games of the late 90s with fondness were mighty happy indeed.

Gearbox threw out a bunch of details about the pack: it will cost $34.99, and come with the original versions of both games (re-jigged to run properly on modern systems) as well as the remastered versions of both that have the upgraded graphics, improved lighting and sharper textures of more modern games.

They also punted another Homeworld project called Homeworld: Shipbreakers that’s in the works; it’s a prequel game made by some of Homeworld’s original developers. They didn’t provide a release date for that, though.

Homeworld remains one of the greatest real-time strategy games ever made thanks to its brilliant free-axis movement system that allowed for some of the most epic space battles in gaming, and with its new visuals looking as brightly polished as a newly-minted R5 coin, I can’t wait to get back into it.

Homeworld Remastered Collection will be available through most digital retailers, including GOG.com and Steam as of the 25th of Feb, 2015.

Here’s the trailer:
