Samsung’s Galaxy S6 could have an all metal frame

It’s just under two months until the start of the 2015 edition of Mobile World Congress and already the leaks have begun to surface around Samsung’s next flagship phone, the Galaxy S6 (which will, in all likelihood, be announced at the event).

Today’s leak, from French site ‘Nowhere Else’ shows what could be the full metal form of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone. While there is no way to verify the pics are real, it fits in with Samsung’s current changes in design language and would be a big step forward for much of the market. The edges of the frame in the picture are similar to those of the Galaxy Alpha and the Galaxy Note 4 with the same central cut out where the heart rate sensor and camera modules are located on the Galaxy S5.

The criticism over Samsung’s continued use of plastic in its high-end smartphones has led the company to release the Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4 with aluminium frames to help improve their image in the market place. Samsung even went so far as to launch two full-metal framed smartphones, the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5, in Asia to combat the loss of ground to Apple in the youth segment where metal in considered a must-have material.

Samsung has been having a rough time of late with earnings heading south at a rate that is concerning to the South Korean giant, and declining sales of its smartphones are one of the main reasons why it has seen such a prodigious fall from grace over the last 12 months.

Last year’s flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S5, was heavily criticised by many for its lackluster design which hadn’t changed much since the Galaxy S3 smartphone launched in 2012 and landed up selling 40% fewer units than Samsung had originally planned on.

Hopefully Samsung have something big planned for the Galaxy S6 to revive the marque that was instrumental in making Android the largest OS on the planet.
