Is Sony turning a corner with new E4?

After much speculation, it turns out that Sony’s new smartphone announcement a Z4 afterall, but rather the E4. But what’s really interesting about the newly-revealed model is that it has round corners and edges – a new design direction for Sony you say?

The E4 itself is a rather middle-of-the-road smartphone, with an 1.3 GHz Quad-core processor and a 5-inch 960×540 screen, 5-megapixel front camera and runs on Android 4.4.4. Users with more than one SIM card will rejoice in the fact that the E4 comes in single or dual SIM variants.

The battery, a powerful 2300mAh one, should be able to keep the phone going for a good couple of hours (Sony claims it’s up to two days), but it nevertheless saw it fit to include the ‘stamina’ mode, which powers down the non-essential functions, pushing the battery life to a week.

“With Xperia E4, we wanted to offer people some of the premium Sony features they have come to expect – with unparalleled ease of use – at a highly-competitive price point,” said Tony McNulty, vice president, value category business management at Sony Mobile Communications, in a press statement.

“With a simple set-up, great screen and unrivalled 2 day battery life we’ve created an on-the-go entertainment device that will keep on going, wherever you are.”

When we get our hands on a unit, we’ll tell you all about it. In the meantime, if you want to peruse the full list of specifications, click here.
