Techies, startups and business leaders to converge at first ever Soweto Innovation Week

The Soweto Theatre, also known as the Jabulani Theatre, will be opening its doors to host the first ever Soweto Innovation Week in April. It’s one of Joburg’s top spots for all innovators and creative thinkers to converge having played host to previous events such as TEDxSoweto,

Organised by the Internet Society Gauteng Chapter (ISGC) and  iAfrikan in partnership with the Soweto Wireless User Groupover 400 tech and digital professionals, leaders, startups and corporates will gather at Soweto Innovation Week which will take place over three days from 8th to 10th April.

Each day will carry a specific theme and agenda as follows:

  • 8th April – Internet governance
  • 9th April – Technology for economic development
  • 10th April – Digital broadcasting

“The innovation economy in the South Africa has emerged as one of the leading drivers for job creation, wealth creation and overall economic productivity. In order for South Africa to remain a leader in the global economy it is critical that all of its citizens are effectively positioned to compete and profit,” said Gabriel Ramokotjo, president of ISGC.

“Historically disadvantaged communities, the youth and women are not participating in the technology industry at anywhere near the levels of other South African communities.”
