Government unveils new app to communicate news, service and job info with citizens

The Department of Communications recently unveiled a new app to allow South African citizens to get quick and easy access to information on the government’s website.

The department’s deputy minister, Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams announced that citizens will be to view the latest available government jobs, government department contact details, tender bulletins, news and radio bulletins, information on services like renewing your driver’s licence or renewing your car licence disk and more.

Developed by Creative Spark, the South African government app is available for Android and iOS mobiles, while 2G phone users can make use of the site’s mobi site.

“As government, we are committed to ensuring that our people indeed are governed,” Ndabeni-Abrahams said. “The app was developed at the back of evidence that there was an increasing appetite for government information.”

The government is even launching a number of national campaigns starting 1st March to publicise the app among citizens.

Between 1st April and 3rd May, the Department of Communications will ask users for feedback of their experience with the app.
