Big Xbox Live sale coming this week

Everyone’s favourite middle-aged gamer, Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb, has tweeted that the Xbox Live Ultimate Sale is going to start shortly.

The Ultimate Sale happens every now and then, and offers pretty deep discounts on Xbox games. According to Xbox Culture, Xbox Australia accidentally published early details of the sale online, but the site has since been taken down.

While up, Xbox Culture got a brief look at some of the discounts: the Telltale collection and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor both get 40% off, Destiny is less 33% and Halo: The Master Chief Collection is going for 60% off. Lords of the Fallen, a Souls-esque game featuring strategic melee combat is getting a whopping 75% off.

Xbox Live Gold members (hah, gold members) can expect even deeper discounts as that’s one of the benefits of paying R600 a year for Microsoft’s Xbox services. By the looks of the Xbox Culture article, which features screen captures of some of the games, Gold members will get anything from an extra 5% to 10% off the sale prices.

The sale dates were apparently also leaked: February 18th to February 24th. Major Nelson’s tweet all but confirms those dates as that is pretty much “next week” according to his tweet’s February 14th date stamp.

It’s also unclear whether the sale will be across both Xboxes, or just the One, but I’d be surprised if Microsoft left its far-larger Xbox userbase out of this one.

So keep an eye on your Xbox dashboard this week, and prepare for a slew of bargains. Now if only Microsoft wasn’t doing this before payday.
