Show how you see your city through a lens in the SACN Instagram Competition

The South African Cities Network (SACN) is calling on people from all around South Africa to enter the South African Urban Development Conference‘s 2015 SA Cities’ Instagram Photo Competition. All you need to do is send in in photos that depict how you, as an urban citizen, see your city and city life in general.

The South African Development Conference (SADC) will be hosted for the fourth year in a row by SACN in partnership with the City of Tshwane, the Department of Cooperative Governance, and the South African Local Government Association. The discussions and outcomes of SADC will be a part of the preparation of the fourth State of South African Cities Report, which measures city development performance in the country.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Are cities effective drivers of local and national development?” and SACN wants to give young city residents the chance to get involved by using their camera lenses and social media to present a realistic and informal insight into city life.

Entrants must be living in and take photos of any city under the following municipalities:

  • Buffalo City
  • Cape Town
  • Ekurhuleni
  • eThekwini
  • Johannesburg
  • Mangaung
  • Msunduzi
  • Nelson Mandela Bay Metro
  • Tshwane

You must be 18 or older to enter the SACN Instagram Competition and entries must centre around the theme “My City, through my lens”. Make sure you post your photo on Instagram and insert your respective city’s municipal hashtag allocated by SACN as well as the SACN Instagram handle – @SACitiesNetwork – and #SACNurbanComp15, which is essential for all submissions.

The first prize is R5 000 and second is R2 500. Winners will be selected from within each municipality and entries close this Friday, 20th February and can be submitted on the SACN website.

A few shots by entrants have already been uploaded on the SACN website – you can check them out here.
