One of South Africa’s favourite (and most established – the first strip appeared in July 1992) cartoons, Madam & Eve, may become an international musical success story if its crowdfunding campaign gets enough support on local site Thundafund.
Madam & Eve creators Stephen Francis and Rico Schacherl launched an ambitious campaign in December to raise a total of R4 million for a massive project that is has its sights set on both a national show and global tour.
According to Francis and Schacherl, the Department of Arts and Culture has already put up some cash to get Madam & Eve: The Musical started, but a lot more is needed to make the show a reality.

While the overall goal is R4 million, the campaign’s tipping point is R2 million, which will go towards debuting the musical in Port Elizabeth.
As a campaign, Madam & Eve: The Musical has raised R14 500 so far and only has 40 days left to go, so it will need a really big boost to successfully raise R2 million before funding closes in March.
“It’s time for the ultimate Madam & Eve spectacular… With your much-loved characters brought to life on the stage through a multiplicity of South African musical style, it’s soon-to-be a sparking showcase of our colourful ‘Rainbow Nation’,” Francis and Schacherl say.
The Madam & Eve team are determined that this next venture of their could be a world class production. To get involved, head over to their Thunderfund page.
