Digitally solve Jozi’s problems and you could win R5 million

Do you have an interesting idea that could possibly solve a number of infrastructure or development issues in Johannesburg? Or do you think you have what it takes to show the city’s planners a thing or two?

If you answered yes to at least one question above, then consider entering into the #Hack.Jozi Challenge. It may seem hard to believe, but #Hack.Jozi Challenge wants to pay if you have an idea that can change the City of Gold.

“Your digital solution to a problem in Jozi could be the ticket to launching your start-up. With prizes valued at R5 million at stake, the #Hack.Jozi Challenge wants to find the most innovative digital ideas to enrich the lives of the people of Joburg,” explains Zolani Matebese, the head of broadband at the City of Johannesburg.

But don’t worry if you don’t have any technical experience, #Hack.Jozi can put you in touch with the right people who have the skills if your solution is chosen as the best.

“The #Hack.Jozi Challenge is an initiative between the City of Johannesburg and the Joburg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE) at Wits University. Award winners will leverage IBM’s Bluemix, a cloud-based platform which is an open-standards platform for building, managing and running apps of all types such as web, mobile, big data and smart devices, provided as-a-service in the cloud,” Hack Jozi explained in a press statement.
