Directions just became free with TomTom’s mobile app

Virtually all car owners in South Africa have been stuck in horrendous traffic at some point. To make things a bit better for local drivers, TomTom South Africa has announced that its Android app can now be used for free.

There is a slight catch though: while use of the app is free, users who don’t have a TomTom account can only get free navigation for 75km a month. But if you ask us, it’s still a pretty good deal, especially if you are in a bit of a pinch. You can, however, upgrade to unlimited driving with a simple in-app purchase at R250 for a year’s subscription.

“The TomTom GO Mobile app for Android is made for drivers who want to experience the best of TomTom on their smartphone,” says Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director, TomTom Consumer, in a media statement.

“We entirely rethought our Mobile solution so every driver has the chance to try navigation with TomTom Traffic. Now all android owners can avoid the traffic jams and get to their destinations faster, every day.”

What sets the TomTom navigation app apart from others, is that you will be able to drive around anywhere in the world, even if you don’t have a network connection.

“With offline maps, TomTom GO Mobile is the ideal travel companion for mobile users. The new app features a global map licence so South African drivers can use it all over the world,” TomTom said.
