Everything you want to know about the internet in Africa & beyond in one chart

This morning, the global organisation led by the World Wide Foundation and backed by the likes of Microsoft, Facebook and Google released its second annual affordability report this morning, and it makes for interesting reading.

In order to better measure country performance in future reports, it changed its ranking mechanism to an abstract index number which compiles scores for how internet access is promoted, regulated and might drop in the future.

If you want the real numbers, though, you’re in luck. The organisation has published a big dump of data – along with an excellent explorer tool – for getting the facts. It includes original research conducted on behalf of A4AI, as well as stats leaned from the International Telecoms Union (ITU), International Energy Agency (IEA) and more. Did you know Khazakstan has almost four times as many broadband subscribers per 100 people than South Africa? Click here to find out more.

We’ll be taking a dive through the data and pulling out more key stats over the next few days.
