Get your hands on the Office 2016 for Mac preview

If you aren’t a fan of open-source software, the chances are good that you use Microsoft’s Office productivity suite. But if you’re a Mac user, you might be a bit hesitant to make use of the enemy’s software.

But fear not, dear Mac users: Microsoft is still in the process of adding polish here and there to Office 2016 for Mac. While it’s busy, you can download and try a preview version of the software today.

If you follow the simple instructions on the official page, you will be given access to preview builds of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook. If you already have the 2011 version, you can still download the preview and work on it alongside the 2016 one.

Microsoft has previously made apps like Word and Excel available for different iOS devices, but the Mac version of Office 2016 will not be a simple port to Cupertino’s hardware.

“The new Office for Mac user interface is designed from the ground up to take advantage of the latest Mac features, including retina display and full-screen view support,” it explained on the product page.

But you don’t exactly have a lot of time to poke around. “Every build will expire roughly 60 days after it is posted. The last preview build will continue to function for roughly a month after our official launch date.”

If that doesn’t put you off, click here to take it for a spin.
