Google Doodle celebrates women in STEM for International Women’s Day

Yesterday, March 8th, various events were held around the world to celebrate International Women’s Day, a day first officially recognised as far back as 1911 in Austria. Search giant Google did its bit to mark the occasion with a Doodle honouring women in various professions including science, tech, engineering and maths (STEM).

The Doodle specifically portrays women in professions typically associated with men to highlight the fact that women can and are excelling in these areas despite facing discrimination.

International Women’s Day celebrations continue this week as Google South Africa hosts women entrepreneurs during a free digital business management workshop from 10th to 11th March in Johannesburg.

If you are interested in attending the event, you can still register on the Google events site, but be aware that spaces are limited.

*Quick tip : If you get an error when clicking the “To apply please submit your application here” link on the above site, click on the “Register” link at the top of the page instead.
