[HOW TO] Watch the first episode of Sony’s Powers

Powers, the new Sony exclusive series based on the Marvel comic books by Brian Michael Bendis, saw its first episode air on the PSN this week. Like many other wonderful titles created for the viewing pleasure of PS4 fanboys, it’s not available in South Africa.

Well, as long as you don’t know what a VPN is. Or a Geo-Unblocker.

In which case, you can have a look at what you’re missing, since the first episode of Powers is now available to watch online at YouTube.

If you click on the above link you’ll probably receive the dreaded “The Uploader Has Not Made This Video Available In Your Country” message. This seems a shame, not least since the lead character in Powers, an ex-superhero turned cop, is played by South Africa’s very own Sharlto Copley.

If you want to have a look at what the District 9 and Elysium star is up to (please, no one mention the atrocious OldBoy remake – we’ve forgiven him for that) we suggest downloading a VPN like TunnelBear. It costs $4.99 and it gives you unlimited bandwith so you should be able to watch Powers on Youtube – that is, until Sony yanks it off there.

Or, if you just want to give it a quick spin to see what all the hoopla is about, download TunnelBear and sign up for the free account. It will only give you 500MB to use for free, but if you switch the video quality to SD, you might just get to watch the full episode. Tweet about TunnelBear, and it will give you 1GB.

Remember, though, the trailers that we’ve seen so far have been slightly gory and filled with swearwords, so this is definitely NSFW and you probably shouldn’t let your children watch it.
