Join the ITU in celebrating International Girls in ICT Day this April

On Thursday, 25th April, organisations from around the world will be hosting various events and workshops in celebration of International Girls in ICT Day.

International Girls in ICT Day, which is celebrated on every fourth Thursday in April, is an initiative by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) established to raise awareness on empowering and encouraging girls and young women to consider studies and careers in ICTs.

Any individual or group is welcome to host their own event in support of the day where they will contribute skills, knowledge and mentorship to young girls in their communities by introducing them to aspects of ICT like coding and electronics. All you need to do is head over to the International Girls in ICT Day website to get all the tools and info you need.

According to the ITU, over 111 000 girls and young women have taken part in more than 3 500 events held in 140 countries around the world since it was first celebrated in 2012.

Last year, htxt.women attended the only International Girls in ICT day held in South Africa at Intel’s head office in Johannesburg, where a group of girls from Westbury High School were invited to a coding workshop and had a few women from the industry speak to them about careers in coding.
