Instagram shows off its new collage-making app

Who doesn’t love putting cat pictures on Instagram? Well, now you will be able to show off more than one of your precious babies at a time with the company’s new collage app that was unveiled late yesterday.

Called Layout, it will give you the ability to combine multiple images into one photo that you can then upload to Instagram – or other social media platform.

“When you open Layout, we automatically show you previews of custom layouts as you choose photos from your camera roll. To make it easier to find the photos you want, we’ve also added a Faces option that shows you all the photos in your camera roll that feature people,” Instagram explained in a bog post.

Once you have decided on which images to use, the app will let you rearrange them, zoom and adjust the size. It will also give you the ability to add mirror effects. If you are feeling spontaneous, you can always engage the PhotoBooth mode, where it launches a timer and captures images that will directly be ported into a Layout design.

“From imagining mirrored landscapes to sharing multiple moments from an entire adventure, we’ve seen these kinds of visual storytelling happening on Instagram and we’re inspired by it. With Layout, it’s easier than ever to unlock your creativity — and we can’t wait to see what you’ll make next,” it said.

This is actually great news for smartphone photographers. While there are a number of app that allow you to make collages, there are very few that are actually good. With Instagram’s offering, users might feel more inclined to use an app from a reputable company than some third party developer.

Oh, and the app is only available on iOS.
