AMD accidentally reveals Windows 10 launch date

Just as I finished up a story on one leak, I discovered another: Windows 10 will launch in “late July” according to AMD’s chief executive officer Lisa Su. The year of the leak, indeed.

Engadget says the information came during an earnings briefing last week, when Su said “…with the Windows 10 launch at the end of July, we are watching sort of (sic) the impact of that on the back-to-school season, and expect that it might have a bit of a delay to the normal back-to-school season inventory build-up” in response to a question about AMD’s inventory plans.

This is in line with Microsoft’s own admission, that Windows 10 will launch “this summer”, meaning some time between June and the end of August. The end of July is slap-bang in the middle of that window, lending even more credence to Su’s words.

And of course, AMD would know this as the company is one of many Microsoft partners, and will need hardware to be on-shelf in time for people to take full advantage of the new operating system.

Windows 10’s development has contained many surprises for me, a longtime Windows user and follower of all things Microsoft, culminating in this incredibly quick release.

Then again, with the public helping out with the beta testing and Microsoft’s ability to make changes to the OS faster than ever, the speed at which Windows 10 has taken shape is entirely understandable.

Now, all that’s left is to see how the public at large reacts to it.

We should find out more about Windows 10 later this month at Microsoft’s Build Developer Conference, which takes place from the 29th of April to the 1st of May.
