Mass Effect 4 details leaked via online survey

2015 is shaping up to be the Year of the Leak, and the latest in-progress-but-not-officially-unveiled project to get the leaky treatment is Mass Effect 4.

A Reddit user posted the contents of a questionnaire he/she filled out over the weekend, which asked them what they thought of several proposed features for the game.

They have since deleted their account, but the details were essentially confirmed by prominent and trusted leaker, Shinobi062, via the NEOgaf forums shortly after the Reddit post hit.

Apparently, much of what is detailed in the questionnaire are things he’d heard about from his own sources, and since he has a reliable history of leaks that include information that turned out to be true about a lot of games and industry developments from last year, it’s a safe bet that this is legit.

So what does the questionnaire say? Quite a bit, actually, but here are some highlights.

The new game leaves behind everything relating to the first three games, and starts afresh in the Helius Cluster of the Andromeda Galaxy. You play as a “Pathfinder”, a human character on a quest to find a new home for humanity; in this brand-new sector of space you’ll encounter everything from warring factions to an extinct alien race called the Remnants to “savage, untamed lands”.

Part of your aim is to develop your ship, collect resources with which to upgrade your equipment and set up colonies.

There are hundreds of solar systems to explore and a map that’s apparently four times the size of Mass Effect 3’s playable area.

Dialogue can be interrupted by pulling a gun to encourage the desired outcome.

ME4 will see the return of the Mako, the driveable tank-like vehicle with which you explored planets in the original Mass Effect but this time it will be upgradeable. While some fans are ecstatic at the news, some – like me – hated the Mako sequences of the original game and hope whoever develops this title don’t make the same mistakes in ME4.

Apparently players will be able to recruit AI-driven mercenaries called Strike Teams to go on missions on the player’s behalf, similar to what happens in Dragon Age: Inquisition. They can even defend colonies in your absence, and all actions cost real-world time.

On the multiplayer side, ME4 will feature Remnant vault raids, a horde mode and the option to complete Strike Team missions yourself, with friends. Rewards for completing these missions include experience points, loot and of course, alien artefacts.

That’s a whole lot of Mass Effect goodness. It’s impossible to guess how far along development on the game is based on these questions, however, and in fact if anything it means Bioware or whoever is in charge of the game is still in the process of gathering intel with which to decide what, exactly, they’re going to do with the game.

What do you guys think? Does any of this sound like a Mass Effect game you’d like to play? What, if anything, would you like to see changed, removed or added to the feature-list?

I think it’s safe to assume we’ll see this new Mass Effect, whenever it arrives, on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One, but as of right now nothing is confirmed.
