Your old iPhone will no longer be able to open the YouTube app

Do you have an iPhone that is running on anything less than iOS 7? If you do, you won’t be able to open and watch YouTube video through the company’s official smartphone app.

Because of changes to its app API, the app will no longer work on older iPhone models as well as certain smart TVs at the end of April.

“As we upgrade the YouTube Data API to bring more features, we’ll begin shutting down the old version on April 20, 2015. This will result in the current YouTube app not working on certain device models from 2012 and older,” it said in a blog post.

For iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad models, if you are on iOS 7 or above, you should download the new app, but if you can’t update the OS on your device of choice, the only way that you will be able to access YouTube will be to go to the mobi site by entering m.youtube.com into your smartphone or tablet’s browser .

The change in the API will also affect gaming consoles, but YouTube is pretty vague on which won’t work: “If you have a web browser on your Smart TV or game console that supports flash and/or HTML5, you may be able to continue using YouTube by visiting www.youtube.com in your browser,” it explained.
