Microsoft is calling all current and aspiring Azure developers to enter its Openness Ideas Competition for the chance to win R50 000 towards marketing their app.

Developers with an already existing application, or idea for one with an Azure backend created for Windows Phone, iOS, Android, or BlackBerry, can submit their app along with a 250-word description, images and link to the app hosted on either of the four operating systems’ app stores (if your app is already up and running).

The app can be under any category – it will be up to the public to vote for the app by sharing it on Facebook and Twitter. One vote equals one point and the app with the most points will win.

The R50 000 digital marketing campaign prize will be awarded to winners in two categories: Windows Phone and iOS, and Android or BlackBerry. Digital marketing will be facilitated by Microsoft and iProspect.

At the moment, the Eishkom and Greed City apps are the top contenders in the Windows Phone category and Family Alert leads in the iOS, Android or BlackBerry category.

Entries for the Microsoft Openness Ideas Competition close on the 26th May and must be submitted via the competition’s website.
