Some Facebook users are able to initiate a video call to their friends by simply tapping the video icon on Messenger following Facebook’s announcement on Monday.
Video calls via Messenger are not available in South Africa at the moment, but they’ve been rolled out in Nigeria and seventeen other countries including the US and UK. One hopes that South Africa will soon be added to the list.
Video calling is the latest in a string of enhancements to Messenger that include the ability to make free calls using data and convert voice to text. But perhaps best of all is the new feature’s ability to place video calls between iOS and and Android mobile devices, avoiding the operating system barrier that sometimes hampers new tech.
Keep your eyes peeled for more info in the coming weeks as the feature becomes available in more countries.
