Uber South Africa just announced that it will be donating all the cents from rounding up cab fees to the nearest rand to the Reach For A Dream Foundation. Called UberAssist, it’s the taxi company’s first national assist campaign.
“Previously we have automatically rounded down the value of your trip to the nearest rand. For the next 3 months we will leave the value of the trip as is and contribute the extra amount to the Reach For A Dream Foundation,” Uber said in a media statement.
Uber gave an example of the break-down on how much will actually be donated using three popular routes:
“These small amounts donated from each rider’s trip, although a few cents here and there, when combined with riders across the country become a significant contribution in helping improve these childrens’ lives,” it said.
