Wikileaks reopens online submissions

Whistle-blower website Wikileaks has played a huge role in divulging anonymous state secrets, diplomatic cables and spy tales, but if you happened to know something juicy you had no way of presenting it with documentation – until now.

For the first time in almost five years, the website founded by Julian Assange is now accepting online submissions again – but naturally you will have to make use of the secure Tor browser to do so.

“WikiLeaks publishes documents of political or historical importance that are censored or otherwise suppressed. We specialise in strategic global publishing and large archives. You can only access this submissions system through Tor,” it wrote.

The Tor-browser website where you can find the submission’s page is located at wlupld3ptjvsgwqw.onion Don’t worry if the URL looks a bit weird, as Tor is an anonymous network and uses a different method of accessing websites – with strange URLs.

At the bottom of the Submissions page, Wikileaks has a number of tips for potential sources, like removing traces of your submission.

“If you are a high-risk source and the computer you prepared your submission on, or uploaded it from, could subsequently be audited in an investigation, we recommend that you format and dispose of the computer hard drive and any other storage media you used,” it advises.

South Africa also has its own whistle-blower website, afriLeaks, which we have written about in the past. It too has a submissions page that make use of the Tor browser, but there is a regular browser version as well.

“afriLeaks allows you to leak confidential documents of public interest. We’ve designed a system that helps you to share these materials while protecting your own identity, making it very hard to identify you as the source of the leak,” it explains.
