Dept of Health launches competition to name new app for SA youth

As a step forward in its ehealth projects, the Department of Health will be launching a new app targeted at South African youth and is calling on them to help give it a name to stand a chance to win.

The department’s minister, Aaron Motsoaledi made the announcement at the UN Every Woman Every Child movement’s 2016 – 2030 Global Strategy for Women’s‚ Children’s and Adolescents’ Health event held today in Johannesburg.

The new health app will be launched on the heels of the MOMConnect mobile programme designed for expectant mothers around Africa. Motsoaledi said 383 354 pregnant women are currently registered on the system.

Youths will be allowed to engage in live chats with the minister, get information on sexual health and complain to district-level focal points charged with following up, among other things.

Youths between the ages of 10 – 24 are invited to enter the naming competition by submitting a six-letter name to the Young Africa Alive mobi site. The prize up for grabs is a tablet.

The competition closes on the 31st of May, and winners will be announced in June at the app’s official launch.
