Gauteng innovation prize puts over R3 million in seed funding up for grabs

The annual Gauteng Accelerator Programme (GAP) competitions are back for the fifth year in a row, looking to recognise and award the province’s best innovators and researchers.

GAP, run by The Innovation Hub, consists of four competitions representing different categories:

  • GAP Biosciences – For teams actively involved in the Biotech sector.
  • GAP Green – For green technology entrepreneurs working on solutions related to renewable energy, water management, waste and sanitation, sustainable mobility and food security.
  • GAP ICT – For innovators with solutions  in the ICT sector that have strong business potential and prospects for broad social impact.
  • GAP Medical: Health Innovation Challenge – For entrants with health technology innovations that will contribute to the improvement of health care service delivery.

The competitions aim to assist entrants looking to take their prototypes and late stage research and development to market by offering them seed funding and incubation services at The Innovation Hub.

Winners in each category will be chosen t make up nine total winners who will receive seed funding ranging between R50 000 – R1 million and be incubated at The Innovation Hub from January to December 2016.

Entries for the GAP Biosciences competition have just closed, but the Green, ICT and Medical: Health Innovation Challenge competitions are open until the 12th June.
