Start using Periscope without a Twitter account

Don’t have a Twitter account but desperately want to see what is happening on Periscope? Well, you don’t have to suffer from fomo any more, as Twitter is making things a little bit easier for you.

Periscope is Twitter’s iOS-only app that allows people to live streaming content to Twitter, but if you didn’t have access to Twitter you couldn’t have access to Periscope – until today.

Thanks to a recent app update, new users will now be able to sign up for a Periscope account by using their mobile phone number instead of having to go through Twitter’s verification steps.

“Until now, you needed a Twitter account to signup. For existing Twitter users, we recommend signing up via Twitter (we’ll help suggest people to follow based on your Twitter social graph), but we’ve also added an option to signup using your phone number,” Periscope’s team said in a blog post.

Included in the newly-released version 1.0.4, you will also now be able to change your profile picture to something that you are more comfortable with.

“Well, we think you look great, but by popular demand, we added an option to change your profile picture. A tap on your avatar in your Profile will prompt you to change your photo to one in your Camera Roll, or to take a new photo.”

The live streaming app became the focus of a copyright debate, as many people decided to stream their television sets so that people could watch the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight live through Twitter.

Have you tried to broadcast or watch something on Periscope?
