Telkom opens up high-speed LTE-A to 23 more suburbs

In December last year, fixed and mobile operator Telkom rolled out LTE-Advanced to two suburbs in Johannesburg, two in Cape Town and one in KwaZulu-Natal.

Somewhat keeping its promise to roll out LTE-A to more than 50 suburbs before the end of March 2015, the company revealed a host of other suburbs that will be able to connect to its 150Mbps network.

The majority of the newly-added suburbs are in Johannesburg, but for the first time in its expansion plans it added two suburbs in Tshwane: Highveld and Midstream Estate in Centurion.

The other suburbs added to the network coverage map are Carlswald, Halfway Gardens, Houghton Estate, Midlands Estate, Noordwyk, Parktown, Parktown North, Parkview, Greenside, Sandhurst, Saxonwold, Vorna Valley, Kyalami Hills, Killarney, Craighall Park and Rosebank in Gauteng; Green Point, Rondebosch and Mouille Point in the Western Cape; and Prestondale in KwaZulu-Natal.

When you sign up for LTE-Advanced, you will get a LTE category 6 Huawei E5186 LTE router – which is actually capable of 224Mbps download and 10Mbps upload speeds.

There are three prepaid deals available on the website, and range from R2 699 for a once-off 2GB and 1GB monthly internet bundle, to R4 299 for a once-off 60GB and 60GB monthly internet bundle.

In terms of contact prices, a 100GB monthly package with set you back R1 399 a month for the cheapest one (which come with the Huawei E5186 LTE A Router only), to R1 449 for a 100GB monthly package that comes with a Huawei E5186 LTE A Router and a Huawei E5372 LTE Mi-Fi Router + MultiSIM.
