There is a new Xbox One controller on the way

If you want to chat to your friends over Xbox Live, you need a chat adapter from Microsoft specifically built for the Xbox controller. This has always caused a bit of a headache, as the adapter makes use of a 2.5mm plug that then connects the controller with a headset.

But according to the company’s own Support page, Microsoft is apparently working on a new controller that will have a 3.5mm jack – making it much easier to plug your own headset into the controller.

Below a diagram of the new controller, it describes the newly-added jack. “3.5-mm port (16). Used to connect compatible 3.5-mm audio devices. Only available on controllers released after June 2015,” it wrote.

As Eurogamer pointed out, one of the most requested features to Microsoft regarding its controllers, is the ability to charge the battery from the console by means of a USB cable, instead of having to use a (sold separately) Play and Charge it.

But the new controller listed in the Support page makes no mention of that functionality.

While no official word has been given as to when it will be made available, the listing on the Support page suggests that it will be made available in July – right after E3.
