Mrs Santa Claus, a hand taking a selfie and a face palm gesture will be among a set of 38 new emojis that will be publicly released next year by the Unicode Consortium.

The Unicode Consortium is a non-profit organisation responsible for releasing official emojis to different platforms and operating systems, such as the recently released diverse emojis for iOS.

The rough sketches of some of the proposed emojis.

The new emojis were selected as a result of popular requests from online communities and as a way to complement already existing ones, the organisation said.

At the moment, only proposed rough sketches have been published as they will not be finalised until members of the main committee have given them the thumbs up for official release.

Once they’ve been given the green light, the emojis will then be available for all operating systems and social media and instant messaging platforms to integrate into their services.
