Microsoft South Africa is all about the youth

In the past two days Microsoft South Africa has demonstrated how it is going back to the future by reaching out to youngsters from diverse backgrounds .

Microsoft SA’s Academic Developer Advisor, Nyaladzi Mpofu told learners at Dan Kutumela Secondary School during the Let’s Get Appy initiative that there is a significant need for locally-developed applications.

Those words came a day ahead of a mobile development training day taking place at Unisa Science Campus in Florida, west of Johannesburg.

Let’s Get Appy is a collaboration between Microsoft and the Department of Basic Education in Gauteng that aims to educate learners about opportunities in the ICT sector.

Mpofu stressed the importance of academic excellence in all subjects during his presentation and demonstrated how ICT has simplified our daily lives. The learners also received gifts from Microsoft during a quiz.

Dan Kutumela Secondary School teacher Nyiko Munisi tweeted his thanks during the event.

Munisi will also be attending a trainer training programme at Microsoft’s Joburg office this week.

On the other side of Gauteng, a partnership between Microsoft SA, UNISA School of Computing, Geekulcha and ThoughtWorks will train students on Android and Microsoft Mobile Development for a full day.

Microsoft SA’s relationship with the University is nothing new, however, as the company has hosted Developer Days (DevDays) events for technology designers and developers at the institution as far back as 2011.
