Sacred kraals & community firepools: Read the full Nkandla Report here

President Jacob Zuma isn’t liable for any security upgrade at his Nkandla homestead and therefore need not pay back a cent, police minister Nathi Nhleko has said in parliament.

Nhleko delivered the results of his own probe into the president’s multi-million rand upgrade to his private residence in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal which was allegedly funded by citizens’ taxes.

Public protector Thuli Madonsela’s intial report on the scandal implicated Zuma, saying that the president must pay back a portion of the money used.

Nhleko’s report apparently provides explanations of the purpose of each upgrade including the very controversial “firepool” which was allegedly primarily built to “help” community firefighters in the event of a fire, chicken and cow kraals, a tuckshop and an ampitheatre.

Journalists at the presentation have tweeted some of the explanations given by the minister. Most of which sound too ridiculously farfetched to even be taken seriously:

The full report has been published and you can read the transcript below. The jury is still out on whether or not we should laugh or cry at this circus.
