Windows 10 pricing confirmed

With the release date of the “apology” that will be Windows 10 announced, and the fact that many users already running Windows will receive a free upgrade, the only thing we still needed to know about it was the price for a new licence.

Thanks to CNET, we know that this new version will be priced the same as Windows 8:

“A copy of Windows 10 Home will run $119, while Windows 10 Pro will cost $199. For those who wish to upgrade from the Home edition to the Pro edition, a Windows 10 Pro Pack will cost $99.”

In South African monies, that’s:  R1473.73 for Windows 10 Home, R 2464.48 for Windows 10 Pro and R 1226.05 for the Pro Pack upgrade. Chances are the retail price amounts won’t be an exact exchange rate conversion, but it gives you some idea of the region they’ll be in.

The local Microsoft store lists a digital copy of Windows 8.1 at R1,540.00, but you can get it for cheaper from other local digital or brick and mortar stores.

Some good news for anyone who regularly changes their computer’s motherboards or hard drives that hold their operating system: Microsoft confirms you can clean install windows 10 after upgrading.
