Pics of AMD’s next flagship GPU leaked on XFX website

Next week is not only the week of the Electronics Entertainment Expo – or E3 as it’s known – but it’s also a week in which we’ll see the announcement of a brand-new generation of graphics cards from AMD.

Unfortunately for AMD, leaks have outed at least one of the expected cards ahead of time, the biggest and baddest it has to offer, the R9 390X.

The leak happened via the XFX website, which posted detailed shots of the card and its retail packaging over the weekend.

It was spotted by someone using the handle Cloudfire, and was then picked up by Videocardz.com. The page has since been taken down, but of course the internet never forgets, and the images have been saved for posterity on Videocardz.com.

More importantly, a little more is now known about the card, not least of all that the diamond-shaped pattern on its box reminds at least one person (me) of tacky PJs.

If the box art is to be believed the new card will arrive with 8GB of GDDR5 video memory and it’ll come bundled with DiRT Rally, the latest rally-driving simulator from Codemasters, which is still in Early Access on Steam.

There are four outputs, namely DVI-D, DVI-I, HDMI and DisplayPort for four-screen gaming and a redesigned cooler, although this isn’t exactly news since Videocardz.net saw something that resembled this card a few months back,

What we don’t know, however, is how much power this card will consume. NVIDIA’s latest 900-series of cards are in high demand for their low power requirements and high performance relative to AMD’s current R9-200-series cards, so the R9 390X has its work cut out for it.

If you’d like to see the card from (almost) every angle, head over to Videocardz.

AMD’s newest cards are expected to be launched overseas on the 16th of June, so slap-bang in the middle of next week’s E3.
