Don’t forget: Telkom’s unlimited LTE broadband signups start tonight

In case you’ve forgotten about Telkom’s rather enticing-sounding uncapped LTE offer, here’s a quick reminder:

From midnight tonight (presumably, since the offer technically goes live on the 10th of June), you can fight other internet enthusiasts for one of the 150 spaces per base station on Telkom’s new uncapped LTE service that operates at a maximum of 90mbps.

To do that, you’ll need to point your browser at this web page (which is not yet live) and click the relevant options as fast as you can, as those spaces are sure to fill up fast. You must be prepared to sign a 24-month contract for the service, though.

You’ll also need to live within the handful of coverage areas, of course, which you can see over here. TL;DR: if you don’t live in Sandton, Midrand, south Pretoria, Green Point, Mowbray or Umhlanga, unfortunately you’re out of luck.

The first 50 signups per base station qualify for uncapped LTE internet at R599 a month, the next 50 get it at R699 a month, and the last 50 are locked into paying R799 a month for it.

The reason it’s being limited in this way is to ensure that each one of the 150 people using the service per base station get a good experience, and also don’t interfere with the performance of the base station for everyone else.

Telkom’s Fair Usage Policies (via TechCentral) apply, of course, so don’t expect to pull down terabytes of data every month without some sort of repercussion in the way of shaping or throttling, or even total disconnection.

Should you not make the cut tonight, you’ll be added to a waiting list. So bookmark that page, wait up till midnight and give it a go.

Good luck!
