Bethesda E3 Keynote: Everything you need to know

The E3 Videogame Expo may officially kick off tomorrow, but already one of the industry’s biggest names has made a formidable impact. For its first E3 keynote, Bethesda stepped out of the corner swinging announcing two huge new titles and the release date of arguably it’s biggest IP this year. Here’s everything you need to know about what went down at Bethesda’s E3 Keynote Presentation:

Fallout 4 is coming this November

When Bethesda announced the existence of Fallout 4 ahead of E3 at the beginning of the month, we though that the publisher may have shot it’s most impressive bolt too early. We had also resigned ourselves to a long wait ahead of it’s release. After all – there’s no way that Fallout 4 could see release in 2015, right?

Well it turns out that Bethesda has been working on the follow up to their 2008 post-apocalyptic RPG for quite some time and it’s due to be released this year on November 10th. Alongside the game’s release date, Bethesda announced a list of features, including the return of the VATS (Vault-Tech-Assisted-Targeting-System) combat, a new and incredibly deep crafting system, a couple of plot details (which we won’t spoil for you here) and the ability to play with either female or male avatars. Of course, you’ll have to wait until November to get your hands on all of this, but in the meantime, there’s the Fallout Shelter app on iOS, Android and Windows Phone to whet your appetite – and you can pick it up for free today.

There’s a new DOOM coming in 2016. And it has a chainsaw…

After the slight disappointment that was RAGE, id Software is back doing what it does best – developing DOOM games. The series reboot was teased at the end of May, but the few frames of footage that Bethesda released couldn’t have possibly prepared us for the game’s demo at E3. While DOOM’s cocktail of shrieking demons, massive guns and buckets of gore doesn’t exactly distinguish it much from its predecessors, it’s rarely been put together so slickly and it’s never looked this eye-poppingly gorgeous.

Alongside the campaign mode – in which it was revealed players will gain access to a rather nasty chainsaw, as well as a B.F.G. – DOOM will have a fast-paced multiplayer and a set of modding tools called Snapmap, which will allow players to create their own modes, maps and match physics. DOOM will be out in Spring 2016 (or autumn next year, if you’re living locally), so you should have just about enough time to finish Fallout 4’s main campaign before it arrives. Maybe…

Dishonored is getting a sequel

Bethesda’s Peter Hines hinted that Arkane Studios’ steampunk stealth game, Dishonored, was set to become a franchise back in 2012 when the game posted higher-than-expected sales. However, it was only yesterday at Bethesda’s E3 keynote, where Dishonored 2 was officially announced as a going concern. The new game will apparently allow players to control two protagonists – Emily Kaldwin, the heir the throne from the first Dishonored, and Corvo, the masked assassin from the first game.

Arkane also announced that Dishonored: The Definitive Edition – which is essentially the first game ported to the new gen consoles with all of the DLC and visual scrub – will be available this fall (or spring if you live locally).

Elder Scrolls is becoming a card game

If you’re one of the many people currently enjoying Hearthstone – the game’s official Twitter account now puts its audience numbers at roughly 30 million – and you’re looking for a new virtual card trading game Bethesda has just become the latest publisher jockeying for your attention. At Bethesda’s keynote, Peter Hines announced that the Elder Scrolls franchise is being expanded to include a virtual card trading game called The Elder Scrolls: Legends.

There aren’t too many details available about the game – aside from the fact it’ll be out on “PC and iPad”, but the smart money is on the game taking roughly the same format at Hearthstone – heroes from the Elder Scrolls lore squaring off against each other with an array of spells and monsters in card from. And probably with less cartoon-like art.

BattleCry is still a thing

While it didn’t exactly make a massive splash at E3 last year, Bethesda’s steampunk tactical brawler is still in development – and apparently it’ll be out later this year.

If the idea of playing a rather colourful Team Fortress clone appeals, you can sign up for the beta on BattleCry’s website. If you sign up before July 18th, you’ll get priority beta access as well as a couple of in-game trinkets to kit your warrior out with.
