South African pricing for new AMD graphics cards revealed

With AMD’s new lineup of gaming graphics cards announced just days ago, we were waiting to see how the American prices and release dates would translate to us in South Africa, especially with our extremely weak rand. The answer is better than you might think.

In an email newsletter, sent out to customers today, PC specialist Evetech has shown us the first taste of what we can expect to pay for the new cards, and when they’ll be here.

The cards shown are reference air cooled variants from MSI. The biggest stand out is the flagship model, the R9 390X priced at R7 399. US pricing for the same card is $549, which translates to R6 700 before tax, which makes the Evetech pricing look favourable.

When compared to the recently released flagship from NVIDIA, the GTX 980 Ti at R15 500, it looks like AMD has undercut the green team once again and shall remain as the better choice for price to performance.

Going down the list, the vanilla R9 390 is R5 999, the 4GB R3 80 R4 299 and the entry level R7 370 2GB is R2 799. Evetech says these are discounted from normal price, though, and stock of pre-orders is limited. Discounts only apply when paying via EFT but the cards should be in stock for 24th June.

Now we wait for the prices of NVIDIA cards to change accordingly.
