Geekulcha VacWork programme to give IT students job experience

It’s that time of the year again, when young scholars from the City of Tshwane come together to receive training and build some cool IT solutions.

The Geekulcha VacWork programme is an initiative to study, monitor and address learner-student-job to job market transitions. Fifty youngsters will be spending their chilly holidays with the geeks who will be mentoring them.

Learners can apply to be part of the programme at future.geekulcha.com and the programme is free. Students from Universities can also apply to be mentors during the programme. The City of Tshwane provides the transport everyday during the programme.

The programme will be taking place from the 29th June until the 10th July at Code Tribes Academy at The Innovation Hub. This time, the VacWork will be focusing on healthcare systems, focussing on mobile apps, web applications, electronics and robotics, graphics design and business analysis.

The Geekulcha VacWork programme is powered by the City of Tshwane, The Innovation Hub and mLab Southern Africa.

Tiyani Nghonyama is one of the co-ordinators of Geekulcha and runs its electronics and Geekstars programs.
