You can get a 1TB PS4 as soon as July 15th

Sony has confirmed it’s releasing a 1TB version of the Playstation 4 in an official post on the Playstation blog.

Tagged the “Ultimate Player Edition”, the new version of the console will be launched in “select Europe and PAL territories from 15th July.” Since South Africa is a PAL territory, there’s a strong chance the console will be available locally from that date. There’s no word yet on what it will cost.

However, some outlets are also stating that this version  will be 10 per cent lighter and use 8 per cent less power when compared to the previously highest capacity 500GB PS4.

Internal storage has been something of a problem on new gen consoles. Some big releases, like Grand Theft Auto 5 and The Witcher 3, take up more than 50GB of space, and DLC and day-one patches eat up their fair share of drive space too.

So, it’s not surprising that consoles need to increase their onboard storage capacities. It’s long been said that physical media will die off soon, but these cumbersome game sizes make that prospect rather difficult, especially in countries like ours with sub par internet speeds.
