Donald Trump piñatas go on sale in Mexico

Ever wanted to smack a politician in the head with a stick for saying something stupid? Of course you have – we all have – but that activity is traditionally classed as assault and battery and can earn you some time in jail. There’s also the added headache of having to deal with your target’s security guards in order to get close enough to hit them.

Well, a recent trend in Mexico has thrown up a neat idea for anyone who has ever wanted to respond to a daft political pronouncement with a club – simply make a piñata that resembles the politician you want to belt.

Donal Trump piñatas have started appearing in Mexico in response to inflammatory comments about Mexican immigrants the US politician and tycoon made a couple of weeks ago. Announcing his intention to run for President of the United States, Trump said, “[Mexico] are sending people that have lots of problems, and they are bringing those problems to us. They are bringing drugs, and bringing crime, and their rapists.”

His comments, understandably, were condemned by rights groups and foreign dignitaries and prompted Spanish-language broadcaster Univision to withdraw from Trump’s Miss Universe and Miss America pageants. Now the people of Mexico have the opportunity to bash an effigy of Trump until it breaks.

Designed by artist Dalton Avalos Ramirez, the Donald Trump piñata features the mogul’s whacky hairdo and a very big mouth. “People want to burn the piñatas, they want to break them,” Ramirez told The Guardian.

Maybe this idea will catch on locally. Who knows?
