Microsoft backed app for mobile payments launches

Small businesses  with Lumia handsets can now conduct cash-free transactions with customers on their phones with payment solution ZipZap.

Paycorp and Microsoft have partnered to bring the ZipZap mobile point-of-sale app to Lumia users, allowing them to accept debit and card payments, issue e-receipts via SMS or email and view detailed transaction history.

The app will likely be a boon to business owners who don’t work from an office or often conduct business transactions away from their work premises.

“This is exactly the kind of innovative business solution we like to bring to market,” said Wayne Abramson, CEO of EFTPOS, the point-of-sale subsidiary of Paycorp. “It immediately capitalises on smart technologies to make it possible for a wide range of businesses – from small retailers to businesses on-the-move – to accept immediate payment for goods and services.”

“Our partnership with Microsoft creates an even more powerful mobile business solution for more merchants.”

The ZipZap mPOS (mobile point of sale) app accepts payments via Bluetooth or USB and connects to a separate PIN pad.

Paycorp and Microsoft are offering two 18-month rent-to-own contracts for the ZiZap. The first package includes a ZipZap card reader, a Lumia 535 smartphone and 1GB of data per month for R380  per month. The second includes everything in the first package, but also a Mecer Express A801 tablet for R513 per month.

The ZipZap is available on Windows, iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices.
