Mark Zuckerberg shows off the frickin’ lasers he will use to spread the internet

In a Facebook post earlier this morning, the founder of the world’s biggest social network Mark Zuckerberg showed the world the lasers (frickin’ lasers, people!) Internet.org wants to use to spread internet access into all corners of the globe.

He posted several pictures of the devices on his personal Facebook page with laser beams clearly visible in order to show the tech off, because, well, lasers are cool.

On the post, he wrote “Normally you wouldn’t be able to see the actual beams, but for this demonstration we made them visible. This is just one connectivity project we’re working on, but I was excited to share this with you.”

Internet.org is a partnership between Facebook and several big networking/tech companies that aims to extend the reach of the internet, particularly into under-developed nations. Members include the likes of Samsung, Ericsson, MediaTek, Opera Software, Nokia and Qualcomm.

Plans to pull that off will use all kinds of modern tech – in addition to lasers, of course – like drones and satellites to carry internet signals, well, everywhere there are people.

As the appearance of these pictures seems to indicate – as well as the fact that the organisation has already rolled out access to quite a few countries already – progress seems to be happening apace.
