New Steve Jobs movie trailer almost had Woz in tears

Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple, has not only watched the trailer for the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic, but he’s told Bloomberg that some parts made him want to cry.

The bit that had Woz choking up dealt with Jobs’ rejection of his daughter, Lisa Brennan-Jobs, in the late 1970s despite a paternity test confirming he was her father, saying “It was hard on me, even being quiet, when Jobs refused to acknowledge his child when the money didn’t matter”. Jobs is played by Michael Fassbender in the new film.

Woz didn’t go so far as to say everything about the trailer was spot-on, however, saying he didn’t “recognise himself in the performance of (Seth) Rogen” and that he would never say some of the things that writer Aaron Sorkin had coming out of Rogen’s mouth.

But overall, he said, the movie’s dialogue seemed to deliver the “right message”, and that “Accuracy is second to entertainment in a movie like this.”

Caveats aside, that’s still pretty high praise for the film, which appears to be a much grittier and possibly less forgiving version of the rise, fall and rise again of Apple’s notoriously hard-to-work-with CEO than the 2013 movie, Jobs. In case you’re wondering, that latter movie, which starred Ashton Kutcher, didn’t exactly portray Jobs as a soft and cuddly individual.

Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine comes out in the US on the 9th of October, and in Europe on the 13th of November. It should reach our shores around the same time as it lands in Europe, but as of right now no official local release date is known.
