Code4CT reaches out to women in tech to inspire and mentor attendees

Code4Cape Town (Code4CT) will be hosting workshops starting this week and is looking for women working in the local tech scene to come on board to mentor and inspire attendees.

“The call for women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) to support young girls and women in these fields and upcoming has been highlighted often lately, more so at the IBM Bluemix Girls Night in Cape Town where young developers felt like they were isolated on their journey and didn’t have someone to look up to and questioned what the more successful women already established in these fields were doing about it,” Code4CT explained on its website.

“The takeaway was that more needs to be done in terms of supporting one another and the opportunity has presented itself now with Code4CT.”

The first session will be held on Thursday, July 9th and the second on Thursday, July 16th. Both will be hosted at Cape Academy in Constantia.

Mentors are encouraged to share stories about their journeys in the industry and offer the girls advice on how to go about pursuing careers in tech.

If you’re interested in signing up as a mentor, you can fill in this Google Docs form and provide a link to your LinkedIn profile.

If you’re interested but can’t make it or don’t live in Cape Town, you can create a short video telling your story and giving your word of encouragement. Video link must be emailed to women@siliconcape.com by tomorrow, July 7th.
