Twitter now reminds your followers it’s your birthday

Thank to Facebook, most of us are reminded whenever a friend or family member is celebrating their birthday. Now Twitter is paying us the same courtesy by letting users add their birth date to their bio on their profile.

The addition is much simpler than Facebook’s version which notifies you of birthdays and allows you to send virtual cards and gifts. All it really does is it allows you to publicise your birthday to those who can see your profile.

A bunch of balloons will also pop up and float around your profile on the Twitter desktop client.

You can choose exactly how much information about your birthday you want to share, for example you can leave out your year of birth (for those of you who want to stay 21 forever).

To add your birth date, head over to your profile from a desktop, click on “Edit Profile” and you’ll see the birthday option under your bio.

If you don’t want your birthday to be publicly visible to just anyone who views your profile, you can change the visibility settings by clicking on the icons next to the settings.

The only downside to all of this is that Twitter says that it will “use your birthday to show you more relevant content, including ads”, so you might not want to jump into it if you prefer to avoid ads appearing on your timeline.
