Want to play the Gears of War 4 beta early? Read this!

Would you like to play Gears 4 early? Of course you would!

Who wouldn’t want to play the beta of the fourth iteration of an iconic franchise on the latest version of the console the original game made famous before anyone else? Not you, that’s for sure!

But how do you do it? Well, it’s actually quite simple, if a bit expensive.

Microsoft says you’ll need to buy the Gears of War Ultimate Edition Xbox One which comes out later this year, and owning that will grant you early access to the Gears 4 beta sometime around “Spring 2016”, which for us here in the southern hemisphere is around March of 2016.

Nobody knows quite what the beta will entail, but it’s not unreasonable to expect multiplayer maps, weapons, characters and skins from the full game, and the opportunity to shoot fellow beta testers in the face and chainsaw their bodies in two in online matches. The full game is expected to release during the Christmas season of 2016.

Since you’ll also get the remastered Gears of War for Xbox One with your purchase, you’ll have a whole lot of Gears to go through before the beta kicks off next year, all running at glorious 1080p and 60 frames per second, complete with all-new content never seen before on console.

The only sticking point is that the bundle is on Microsoft’s Xbox site for $350, which will cost who-knows-what in South African rands by the time it becomes available for pre-order here.

Who’s keen?
