City of Tshwane blames outstanding etolls bill on payment collection body

Having trouble paying etolls? Don’t worry, apparently you’re in the same boat as the government. But after yesterday’s news that municipalities in Gauteng owe almost two and a half million rand in unpaid etoll charges, some local officials have come out fighting on Twitter.

The City of Tshwane’s spokesperson, for example, took to Twitter to defend the municipality, saying the issue with the bill lies with Electronic Toll Collection Solutions, the body responsible for etoll payments.

Selby Bokaba posted a series of tweets yesterday explaining how the municipality has all its official vehicles registered, apart from the emergency vehicles that are exempt and has been requesting for VAT compliant invoices for over a year.

The City of Ekurhuleni Metro (which owes the most amount), Emfuleni Local Municipality and Lesedi Local Municipality are all yet to come out with any official comment.
