Google Street View vehicle captures hijacking

Google Street View vehicles capture some pretty strange stuff as they go about their business. In the past they’ve snapped drunks, yoga practitioners and the odd couple having a snog. Now they can add hijackers to the list.

That seems to be what happened this past February, when a Street View car driving along Junction Road in Johannesburg captured the hijacking of a security guard driving an ADT vehicle as reported by The Independent.

The captured images, which surfaced via social media and which are live on Google Street view right now, show a white BMW parked behind an ADT security guard, and two men are on the passenger side of the ADT vehicle pointing a gun at the guard.

As the Street View vehicle keeps driving, it appears that the men throw the guard onto the verge next to the road and search him, after which they climb into the ADT vehicle and drive away, followed by their accomplices in the BMW.

Fortunately, the guard wasn’t injured in the incident, but his gun was stolen.

The Independent says security vehicles are targeted by criminals as they often contain weapons, ammunition and body armour.

Apparently the captured images can and will be “looked into by SAPS and ADT” to further investigate the crime, so arrests may well follow in the wake of the images hitting the wider web.
