Tom Cruise will return as Maverick, but only if there is no CGI involved

In June we heard the glorious news that Top Gun 2 is actually in the works and that Tom Cruise will be reprising is role as Maverick.

Well, it turns out that Cruise is on board for the film, but only if the production there of doesn’t involve computer-generated imagery (CGI).

Cruise told Extra’s AJ Calloway that if that small detail can be figured out, he will be more than happy to don flight fatigues again.

“If I can figure it out, if all of us can figure it out, it’d be fun to do, I’d like to fly those jets again, but we got to do all the jets practical, no CGI on the jets… I’m saying right now no CGI on the jets. If we can figure all that out, and the Department of Defense will allow us to do it, that would be fun,” he said.

In June it was revealed that Justin Marks is busy writing the script.

“Justin Marks is writing the screenplay right now. He has a phenomenal take to really update that world for what fighter pilots in the Navy has turned into today. There is an amazing role for Maverick in the movie and there is no Top Gun without Maverick, and it is going to be Maverick playing Maverick,” said producer David Ellison.
