[WATCH] Man makes an exoskeleton out of Lego and an Arduino

Exo

The above image is the poster for the 2013 movie Elysium. It was South African Neill Blomkamp’s second film – you know, the one he made between the beloved District 9 and the far less beloved Chappie

The header image is from the video we have for you today.

As a film Elysium, was underwhelming, but it did have a visual hook we loved: the exoskeleton worn by the main character (Played by Matt Damon).

In the movie it gives him the enhanced strength and speed he needs to partake in all manner of sci-fi shenanigans. If you’d like to strap one to yourself, the closest you’re going to come in the near future (discounting any aspiring Tony Starks out there) is the exoskeleton that appeared Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

Now that we have you excited about strapping electronics to yourself, let us point you to the YouTube video from Daniele Benedettelli. In it he demonstrates something that looks very familiar: a variation of an exoskeleton he’s built out of Lego Mindstorms and an Arduino.

Now, you may be less enthused to find out that Lego isn’t the best material to make the weapon of war out of, but Benedettelli takes an entirely different route. The suit is actually designed to capture his movements and translate them to a robot he has named “Cyclops MK II”.

The resulting video is awesome and reminds us of the “development montage” in the beginning of Pacific Rim.

When a single video involves Lego, Arduinos, and a mix of something from Elysium, Pacific Rim and Call of Duty, you know it’s something special.
